Measure all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously.
Strain in a glass.
If you want a longer drink, top with soda. Garnish with a dried lemon peel.
Heat gently one cup of sugar and one cup of water in a clean saucepan. Once all the sugar has dissolved, allow the syrup to cool completely. If kept in the refrigerator the syrup should keep for up to six months.
